ALL SCHOOL LECTURE: AARON BETSKY (CO-SPONSORED WITH NEWCOMB ART MUSEUM)

March 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Architecture Beyond Buildings

Rebuild, don’t build. That should be the first rule in all architecture projects. We cannot afford to use up more non-renewable resources and space, nor can we afford to continue to pollute our planet through construction. What is more, new buildings are almost by definition alienating and impose orders on people’s lives that close them in boxes. We need to break those boxes, dissolve those boundaries that separate us, and frame ourselves in relations to others and our landscape. Those should be the tasks of what we call architecture today. Around the world, designers and artists are making strategic interventions that make us at home in the modern world and open up new possibilities with the discipline. Let’s learn from those examples.

A reception will be held prior to the lecture in the Favrot Lobby at 5 pm. The lecture will begin at 6 pm. This event is free and open to the public.

*AIA credits will be offered for this lecture.
