About ACE Mentorship Lunch and Learn

July 20, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Mission Statement

To engage, excite and enlighten high school students to pursue careers in architecture, engineering and construction through mentoring and to support their continued advancement in the industry.

What is ACE?

The ACE Mentor Program of America, Inc. (ACE) helps mentor high school students and inspires them to pursue careers in design and construction. It’s now the construction industry’s fastest-growing high school mentoring program, reaching over 8,000 students annually.

ACE not only engages sponsors and volunteer mentors to expose students to real-world opportunities, it financially supports each student’s continued success through scholarships and grants.
Since inception, ACE has awarded over $14 million in scholarships to promising participants.

History of the ACE Mentor Program

The ACE Mentor Program of America (ACE) was created in 1994 by the integrated design and construction industry to meet its future workforce needs. Today, this industry’s leaders guide, sponsor, and run the program at the national and local levels.

ACE New Orleans

ACE helps New Orleans high school students discover the many exciting and rewarding career opportunities available to them in the building design and construction industry.
Students work with local architects, engineers and contractors from top firms who serve as mentors to guide them through team design projects. In addition, they often visit mentors’ firms to see first-hand what it’s like to work in that part of the industry.
They also tour major construction sites to explore the wide range of professional skills needed in today’s dynamic building industry. Through these experiences, many students make valuable contacts that can help them along their personal educational and career paths.

Currently, ACE New Orleans has active programs at McDonogh 35 College Preparatory High School and De La Salle High School. For the 2017-18 school year, ACE New Orleans will be adding new programs at two more New Orleans high schools.

What does it mean to be a Mentor?

Mentors are vital to the ACE Mentor Program’s success. They establish a bond with individual students and with the team to which are assigned and serve as professional role models. Through hands-on activities and informal presentations, mentors engage students in learning about the integrated construction industry, and they inspire and guide student teams to complete and present their final design project.

As a mentor, you agree to the following time commitment

– Meeting Time: Teams meet in schools or mentors’ offices, sometimes a mix of both.
– Prep Time: Varies
– Other Activities (construction site tours, final presentation event, training, college night, etc.): Varies
