This year our theme focuses on New Orleans’ diverse neighborhoods. As this event serves the Greater New Orleans community through both food and shelter, we are able to reach and serve these many neighborhoods in two very important ways. We invite you to join us for 2010 Canstruction© New Orleans: “Serving up Local Flavor,” where we will recognize and honor the unique places and spaces that make up our cities neighborhoods.
Canstruction© New Orleans brings people together to raise enough food donations to feed hundreds of families for an entire year. Celebrating its twelfth year and more than half-a-million pounds of food donated, this innovative charitable event brings together multi-disciplinary teams drawn from the design, construction, and business communities to create and build extraordinary structures entirely of canned food and other non-perishables. Originally established in Denver and New York more than 17 years ago, the project has spread to more than 50 cities across North America.
All of the canned goods from the canstruction structures are donated to Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana after the event and disseminated to agencies serving people in need. All proceeds from the Gala Awards Ceremony will benefit the Architect Pairing Program, an outreach effort by AIA New Orleans. The Architect Pairing Program provides homeowners and non-profit businesses in need with architectural services.
