Canstruction New Orleans’ mission is to provide hunger relief assistance in south Louisiana by collecting canned food for donation to Second Harvest Food Bank, while promoting the design / build industry. Over the last four years, Canstruction New Orleans events have contributed more than 135,000 cans of food to Second Harvest. Every year, Second Harvest Food Bank serves approximately 263,000 different individuals across 23 south Louisiana parishes including nearly 82,000 children and 40,000 seniors in need. Last year, Second Harvest distributed more than 22 million meals across the Louisiana Gulf Coast.
Canstruction New Orleans is a competition for architects, engineers, designers and contractors to design and build structures made entirely from canned foods within a 10’x10’x8’ space. The structures will be on display Friday and Saturday, May 24 & 25, 2013 in the Morial Convention Center in conjunction with the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience Grand Tasting events. Canstruction New Orleans benefits Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana and is held under the auspices of the Society of Design Administration and in partnership with AIA New Orleans.
