AIA New Orleans is proud to partner with Global Green USA and USGBC-Louisiana to feature our 2012 Sustainability Series!
This session is being led by USGBC-Louisiana. Students from University of Louisiana School of Architecture and Design will be presenting poster sessions featuring work of fourth year architecture students. The multi-story, mixed-use proposals for Lafayette began with intensive site and urban design analysis and concluded with the production of highly developed drawings, including: plans, elevations, building sections and a wall section.
Throughout the semester students worked concurrently in the companion course, Sites and Sustainable Design, on a LEED notebook which documents green building strategies implemented in their design project. Each project illustrates site, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, material and resource and indoor air-quality technologies and strategies. The notebook closely parallels LEED submission requirements, upholding the intent of each credit in the LEED 2009 New Construction and Major Renovations Rating System.
The ten projects on display represent a class of over 30 students, each of whom received an honorary Certified to Platinum designation for their urban infill design project. This comprehensive project prepares these students to to act as informed agents of change for a sustainable future in Louisiana. Faculty advisors are Kari Smith and Tom Sammons. This event isfreeand open to the public.
